Documentary Film Series

Event hosts: Nancy and Charlie Erdrich, Reva and Gerson Greenburg @

When Apollo astronaut Eugene Cernan (who died in early 2017) stepped off the moon in 1972 he left his footprints and his daughter's initials in the lunar dust. Now, more than forty years later, he has shared his epic but deeply personal story. Cernan's burning ambition carried him to the spectacular and hazardous environment of space and to the moon. But there was a heavy price to pay for the fame and privilege that followed. As his wife famously remarked, 'If you think going to the moon is hard, try staying at home.' 'The Last Man on the Moon' combines rare archive material, compelling Visual FX and unprecedented access to present an iconic historical character on the big screen.

In a related topic, the President signed a policy directive in December 2017 that calls for the NASA administrator to “lead an innovative and sustainable program of exploration with commercial and international partners to enable human expansion across the solar system and to bring back to Earth new knowledge and opportunities.” The effort will more effectively organize government, private industry, and international efforts toward returning humans to the Moon, and will lay the foundation that will eventually enable human exploration of Mars.  (At least, that is the stated goal.)

Come join us on Monday, March 5, at 2:45 PM, for another interesting film and discussion - the 18th in our series! Please note that there is parking in the library lot and the first 90 minutes are free; an additional 90 minutes may be purchased for $1.25/hour. If you need to park longer than 3 hours, please park in a public parking garage or do street parking nearby to avoid a ticket. A bus stop is close by at Broadway and Arapahoe.

See you at the movies!
