Hike Rabbit Mountain
Friday, April 28th @ 9:00 AM
Please do not sign up for more than one hike on day of registration
The Eagle Wind Trail at Rabbit Mountain is a moderate 4-mile hike with 500’ elevation gain. It has beautiful views of Longs Peak and nearby peaks, and hikers often see deer and elk.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome on leash.
We will meet at 9:00 a.m. at the trailhead. The Rabbit Mountain Open Space is close to Longmont and a 20-30 mile drive from Boulder. From Boulder take Hwy 36 to Lyons, turn right on CO66, turn left on N 53d St (after one mile), and drive 2.9 miles to the parking area. The sign says “Ron Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain Open Space."
The trailhead can accommodate 41 cars. There are no formal arrangements for carpooling, but it is always a good option – check the registrant list for potential carpoolers.
Come Prepared:
Make sure to dress accordingly. It can be very sunny, windy and chilly at Rabbit Mountain. Please come prepared with appropriate hiking clothing, gloves, boots/shoes, hiking poles, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, snacks, sandwich and bring plenty of water. Hydration is very important.
Depending on the weather conditions, you may want to bring micro-spikes in case of ice on the trail. The hike should take about 2 1/2 hours.
Your hiking leaders are Cheryl Gray (202-215-7465) and Karyn Robinson. Please call Cheryl if you are canceling at the last minute or are running late. If you know you can't make it, please cancel as far in advance as possible to give others the chance to fill your spot.
Restrooms are located at the trailhead.
Note that there is NO Waitlist for this event. If the hike is full and you would like to attend, just keep checking the calendar for openings.
