Interests

Each month we get together around a new(er) movie at one of the local theaters usually followed by a discussion over dinner at a nearby restaurant. Film times are announced about a week prior to screening so events are posted as soon as we have the information. The Coordinator will send an email with event details to all members who have selected Movies as an Interest in their individual Profiles. Members are encouraged to suggest films and venues they prefer.

Daytime book club meets the 4th Monday of the month. Both non-fiction and fiction books are read. Book selections are suggested and chosen by the group. Members volunteer to host and to lead the discussion. A light snack and beverage are provided by the host/hostess.

The evening book club meets the third Thursday of each month, except December. We read 3 nonfiction to 1 fiction book each cycle. We all take turns hosting and we pick our books by voting. It is a very informal discussion and lots of fun. Please join us.

This bi-monthly showing of a critically acclaimed documentary film is held at the Boulder Public Library Main Branch. Each film is followed by an interactive discussion and a happy hour/dinner in the nearby Pearl Street area. Documentary films present factual information woven into a compelling narrative. We select films covering timely topics such as the environment, arts, music, science, history, politics, current events, and economics. Please join us for an informative and engaging evening.

This event is designed for members to have some hands on time exploring various arts and crafts activities. We will be seeking volunteers who may wish to share their expertise and help teach one of these monthly classes. Events will take place in member homes and will usually incur a small cost for materials payable at time of event,

Most BNC members have moved here from other states with different government structures. We meet at different venues and invite speakers who can educate us on how our government works here in Colorado. Legislators are most available when the General Assembly is not in session, so our events generally take place May through October.

This activity leverages the significant expertise of BNC members. Each month a member makes a presentation to fellow members on a subject about which he/she is passionate. The presentations are uplifting, thought provoking, and/or educational and provide a forum to discuss critical issues, as well as sharing more depth about who we are and what is important to us. We follow with dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Join us to sing some old songs and some new favorites. Bring an instrument or just sing along. We will share a common songbook, and take turns picking the next song to play.

Bunko is a social dice game involving 100% luck and no skill. The object of the game is to accumulate points and to roll certain combinations. The game is played four to a table and players rotate every three rounds so there are new folks to chat with throughout the evening. Winners are rewarded for highest score, lowest score, most wins, most losses, and most bunkos.

Guys meet at Twisted Pine (or another brew-pub) for food, craft beer and socializing. Wear your best T-shirt (we're totally informal). Come on down and make new friends and build relationships with other guys in BNC.

According to a recent study by the Brewer’s Association, Boulder has more than 13 breweries for every 100,000 of its citizens, which amounts to more breweries per capita than any other city in the U.S. In recent years, more than a dozen distilleries have also opened in Boulder County. This means that the Craft Beer and Spirit Tasting Group, which meets monthly at a local brewery or distillery, will be kept busy. At each gathering we sample the wares, share our experiences with friends, and learn about the brewing or distilling processes and the impact of the industry on the community.

One night each month we reserve a few tables at a Boulder area restaurant so we can share an evening of fine food, drinks and friendship. The venues and menus vary but they always offer a wide variety of choices to suit most culinary preferences and budgets. Each individual or couple receive their own check. There are no fees to sign up.

Mah Jong is a game of both skill and luck that originated in China and was brought to the West in the 1920’s. We are beginners to intermediate players playing American Mah Jong with tables of 4. If you would like to learn how to play, please contact the event Coordinator to be included in an upcoming beginners class.

Everyone loves a great potluck get-together! The BNC Member Mingle is just that. Held on the second Saturday of each month, it is an opportunity to meet and mingle with other new and not-so-new BNCers in a casual and festive setting. Everyone brings a dish (based on the evening's theme) to share, along with their own BYOB libation. Approximately 25-40 members attend the monthly Member Mingle which is held in a member's home or HOA Clubhouse.

Girls Night Out! meets once a month at a local establishment to make new girlfriends and strengthen established friendships over happy hour drinks and food. It's a casual get together with just the women in the club who enjoy a smaller group setting to get to know one another.

We will be participating in a number of different activities designed to encourage camaraderie and conversation for the single members in our club.

Each month the BNC takes advantage of the fantastic array of hiking opportunities available in the greater Boulder area, from local favorites such as Chautauqua and Sanitas to the Indian Peaks Wilderness, Rocky Mountain National Park, Golden Gate Park and many in-between. Hikes vary in length, elevation gain and difficulty; however the leaders provide specific details so members can determine if a given route suits their fitness level. The goal is to make most of the hikes accessible for most of the active members. This group is created for individuals interested in training to hike a Class 1 (easy) peak/route. We will supply a gear list, training schedule and aim for a conversational pace up the mountain. There will be an informational meeting at my home to detail the specifics and answer any of your questions or concerns. We will train both individually and as a group for approximately 4 weeks, culminating in our assent sometime late August or early September 2024.

Member sponsored, planned one-off activities such as nature tours or museum visits.

Do you enjoy reading and/or attending plays? If so, then join other BNCers to read a short play or several acts from a play chosen by the group. Participants don’t need to be actors, just readers.

This new pilot program is a discussion group for people to come together to explore topics that are related to interesting emerging technologies in the fields of science, technology, and the arts. All participants are encouraged to share their thoughts, ask questions, and engage in dialogue with one another.
