Dragon Boat Racing
Presented by Jeanne Muller
Is it a Dragon? Is it a boat?
What is a DRAGON BOAT, and what is Dragon boat Racing?
A Dragon Boat is a long and narrow boat with a decorative Chinese dragon head, tail, and scales printed on the hull.
Dragon boat racing has been a traditional Chinese paddled watercraft activity for over 2,500 years. Originating among fishing communities along the Yangtze River it was initially a folk ritual designed to appease the rain gods, encourage rainfall and celebrate the summer rice planting.
Dragon Boat racing is the ultimate team building challenge and one of the fastest growing water sports in the world. Dragon boat racing embodies skill, teamwork, and a lot of hard effort!. What other sport do you know that requires 20 people to work in perfect unison, and in a 41 foot narrow boat?!?!
Jeanne Muller started paddling in 2017 when her NJ club was recruiting for an all-women's racing team. After one practice she was hooked and after three practices she paddled in her first race.
Ask any newcomer who paddled for the BNC Newcomer team at last year's Colorado Dragonboat festival at Sloan Lake how much fun it is.
Come learn everything you ever wanted to know about this ancient Chinese activity.
